How To Focus.

Focus.

Focus.

Just imagine for a day you can focus on anything you do. Completely put your concentration and focus on a particular project. Stop your self from getting distracted. Life would be wonderful isn’t it? Able to do all the things that you want to without getting distracted and maintaining your focus on a particular work until its done. It is very easy. A bit of hard work is needed and volah you’ll be a king when it comes on focusing.

95% of people say that they struggle to focus, lets not be one of those because we are awesome remember!

Here are some tips that can help you get focused.

  • Keep food at your Desk:

I know this sounds weird but I’ve experimented and it woks. Glucose helps your brain to focus, you can keep dry fruits, fruits or chocolates (I eat dark chocolates or else no six pacs). The main advantage is the when suddenly you feel hungry the food is right there you don’t have to get up and break the spell of concentration.

  • Turn of the phone:

Most of the phones calls are not urgent and If there are the world is not going to move in an hour or so. Taking calls or text messages disturbs your focus and many ideas just get carried away.

  • Get a good Chair:

There is a reason bosses don’t sit in cheap chairs. The Less the fatigue and more the you enjoy sitting at one make so make that place comfortable.

  • Make a List:

Make a list of the stuff you want to do in day. But make sure that it’s short and achievable easily. e.g 1.Write a blog post, 2. Business meeting 3. Have to hit the gym etc. Then make sure before sleeping all the things in the list should be crossed.

  • Put on headphones:

Classical music or no music is best for focussing. Don’t play those songs which you remember then you’ll be focusing on them. I prefer instrumental music, just something that in the background (so the fear of goest’s is away :) )

  • Clear your desk:

Only keep those things you need to complete certain task, rest completely clear it. The less the clutter the more the focus.

  • Shut of everything:

It means no facbook, twitter or a movie in back ground when you are working. Keep your focus on one task.

  • Time your self:

See what you did in one hour. Give specific time to projects and make sure that you complete them in the desired time.

  • Reward your self:

If you get focused be proud of your self. Give your self something in return. The quickest of the rewards is a good cup of coffee.

  • Frame a picture of your goals:

Your goals must be visible to you. You can pin it on your board or just paste it in your desktop.

  • Be passionate:

Take this focus exercise as a task and be passionate about it.

  • Get Rid of the Negativity:

Negativity is Always bad for you, just get rid of it. Before starting anything clear all the negative aspects in your mind. Try meditating for 5-10 mins.

  • Make everything exciting for your self:

We get bored by things because we make them boring. What ever you do make it an adventure. There is a possibility of adventure in everything.

Hope this well help you.

Stay blessed and stay awesome.

      Thanks..

About your first tip Aamir, while I’ve no issues with keeping food besides your table, but if it is for the purpose of keeping you glued to your table, then its for the wrong reason.

That’s because studies have shown that your concentration is the highest at the start and end of a session. So let’s say you have a task to complete in 3 hours. If you keep at it for 3 hours without break, you’ll have just two concentration highs, not to mention complete exhaustion by virtue of sitting for so long.

But if you break it down to 30 min sessions with 2 min breaks after every session (which is what the scientists recommend), you’ll have 6 peaks of concentration instead of two, which will help you get more out of your task.

Don’t just take my word for it. Go and research this strategy a bit. But I do agree that sometimes when you’ve got the momentum going, you don’t want to break it by taking a break. It’s the same when a bowler is on a roll, he wants to prolong the spell to get the maximum out of his efforts.

Hey saqib, yes I agree with your thought that we should do work in breaks. That is something to get “disciplined” for like the break should be 2-5 minutes. Its different for everybody, some people like to take breaks and some just want to complete the task and then take a long break. The food reason is that one must not get distracted by hunger, i keep dry fruits and they help me not to leave my office without finishing a task. :)
